The Congregation

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. John the Baptist (Baptistine) was founded in Italy by the priest St. Alfonso Maria Fusco in Angri (SA) in 1878. The primary purpose is to remove children from the streets and give them human, Christian, professional formation, and thus preparing them for a better future in society.
It is a religious Institute of Pontifical Right approved, as such, on 1 March 1927 and recognized as a Juridical Body of the Italian State with a Decree on 26 May 1932. It is currently widespread in 18 countries around the world. It operates in Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The apostolic charism of the Institute is the evangelization, education and the human promotion of children and youth especially the poor and at risk. Young people are assisted to develop themselves in the Church and in society, and to become promoters of justice, peace and charity
In this service, the Institute reveals and witnesses Jesus of Nazareth to the world in the perspective and in the hope of the coming Kingdom of God.

The Aim of the Institute

The Mission

It spreads everywhere the message of love, redemption, humility, human promotion that our Founder, St. Alfonso Maria Fusco lived. It incarnates the charism of
"Living the spousal relationship with Jesus of Nazareth at the service of the little ones and the poor and, like the Baptist, preparing the way".. “

The activities

The works with which the Institute carries out its mission in the world are mainly of an educational and promotional nature for children and young people.

Most of them are schools, reception centers such as family homes, human and professional development centers for women, work placement centers for older children.

In particular contexts, the Institute also takes care of the assistance of elderly people.
It also has houses of prayer and spiritual exercises. .

The Congregation is present in:
Italy, USA, Brazil, Chile, Zambia, Canada, India, Philippines, South Korea, Malawi, South Africa, Mexico, Poland, Moldova, Madagascar, Cameroon, Haiti, Vietnam.

Being called to the Religious Life…

It is a great grace from the Lord!
To have been called to the religious state is a great grace From the Lord; you must therefore work for His glory and walk the path that leads to holiness.
You are spouses of the Immaculate Lamb: if you are Always faithful to grace, in paradise you will be close to Jesus; There you will be so beautiful that if jealousy could enter Heaven, you would envy the Seraphim.

It means living in intimate communion with Jesus
My daughters, have you ever thought about what it means to be Jesus’ spouse? Being spouses of Christ means living in intimate communion with Him and loving Him unreservedly.
You as faithful spouses are the envy of the angels. The saints in heaven look upon you with complacency and respect. A great privilege, my daughters, is to be the spouses of Jesus. The true spouses of Jesus follow the Bridegroom where He goes, wherever He calls them. Following the Groom is imitating Him by following Him body and soul.

It’s working and praying
You have to run, my daughters, run a lot; that is, always and quickly do many good works to obtain Paradise as a reward.
The devil does not tempt those who work, work and obey; work and pray. We must work as if we would never die and live as if we are about to die right now.

My Daughters, what do you think you have come to do in the Institute?
Perhaps to start a family of any kind? No, no, you have come to form a family of saints.
This is the purpose of our life, to sanctify ourselves. If we know how to suffer like the saints, we too will become saints. Prosper and always remain saintly united.
